tips for dress shopping from our bridal stylist: mercedes

hey girls, it’s nice to meet you.

You may have seen me pop up on our Instagram story chatting away about which new earrings are my favourite or freaking out about gowns that are new in at the studio. I consider myself very lucky to be a part of this special time in your life. When you go to shop for your wedding dress, you’ve got your mom with you, grandma, sister, your day 1 bestie and … me? It’s an honour! I can’t wait to meet you and help you find the one.

There has literally never been a more interesting time to try and plan a wedding (“Talk about unprecedented times!”) I’ve been so impressed by the way our 2020 and 2021 brides have carried on with complete class, and made the most of their whole wedding experience.

I wanted to share a few little tips to keep in mind while you’re dress shopping in this season, and hope that they bring you a little peace… and a lot of fun.

Be choosey with your crew.

This may seem like an obvious thing considering our current restrictions, however, I’ve been seeing positive things coming from these smaller groups. On one hand, you’re staying safe and prioritizing your friends and family’s health, and on the other, it simplifies the experience, so it’s easy to focus on what you’re really looking for. Take off some of the pressure by inviting 1-2 close friends or family members to tag along! We’ll make sure to take all the photos and videos you need so that everyone else is able to see your favourites.

Don’t forget to wear your nude underwear.

Might seem also obvious.. but you would be surprised at how many brides forget about this tiny detail and have to explain when they show their friends all the photos… ‘Yep, grandma… those are my black panties.” Something seamless and close to your skin tone will give you the best idea of how everything should look!

Relax!

Give yourself time to shop, and don’t stress if you don’t find ‘the one’ right away, because you will. It’s a proven fact actually. Have a sip of your champagne… tell me all about your wedding day vision and enjoy this unique season you’re in! You don’t really get to do the whole ‘dress-shopping-thing’ more than once, so savour every second that is all about you!

Bring the beats.

I would love nothing more than to play your Spotify playlist through our sound system. Curate a list of songs that just do it for you, and put you in the mood to find the one. (Unable to play Apple Music at this time, but pack a bluetooth speaker and you’re all set!

Sustenance… is key.

Our goal is always to give you the best ever experience, but whether we’re your only stop of the day, or if you’ve got 4 appointments lined up all over Vancouver, dress shopping can be very involved. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with a flood of new information, emotions and expectations are high… not to mention it actually is physically tiring changing in and out of a dozen dresses in your one hour appointment. With all this in mind… we obviously need something to take the edge off. Bring a beverage. Of course, champagne is ideal and works great… but even a tea or a coffee, water bottle… a snack? All good options for helping you remain in a state of bliss.

(Another freebie: take a gander through our designers before your appointment! Seeing photos of gowns that you’re obsessed with is helpful when we’re pulling from our collection to suit your taste!)

I hope that these tips help you feel a little more prepared for your dress shopping experience! We want you to have the most fun, feel the most relaxed, and the most you.

See you soon, babes!

xo ~ Mercedes
